The white ring mark is often a result of the moisture getting trapped in the finish, creating a barrier that prevents the moisture from evaporating, and causing it to remain in the wood fibers. For very bad heat or water damage marks that have gone through to the finish, the only way to resolve this would be to remove the old finish by stripping the wood and then re-finishing. Choose a low heat setting on your iron, then iron over the tea towel, moving continuously in a circular motion for around 10 seconds. Fold the tea towel in half and place it directly over the stain to protect the surface against scorching. The verdict: This one was a bit hit and miss in all honesty. While it did nothing on the ingrained dark water stain, I did have huge success in removing white water rings from some bedside tables and all it took was a gentle rub.
